Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain

TKDA provided professional engineering services for the Lake Elmo Avenue Trunk Watermain Improvements, which extended a 16-inch HDPE trunk watermain from 30th Street North to 900 feet north of 3rd Street Place North. The improvements included approximately 13,700 feet of watermain, 44 residential service stubs, 29 hydrant assemblies, and 32 gate valves.

During the project, TKDA assisted the City in initiating a critical component of its water system plan. The immediate water demands for the project included developing properties; however, the watermain extension is also a key component of the water system distribution network, creating a critical loop connection around the Washington County Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

The project was restricted to a tight corridor confined in some areas by prescriptive easements. The northern 1.25 miles was along Lake Elmo, one of the cleanest lakes in the Twin Cities, with a regional park along one-half of the shoreline. Additional measures were included in the contract documents to protect Lake Elmo, which was within 50 feet of the watermain for much of this distance.
