New Robert Piram Regional Trail Officially Opens
A ribbon cutting event was held at Kaposia Landing Park on July 28th to mark the new Robert Piram Regional Trail. The paved pedestrian and bike path links Saint Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park to Kaposia Landing Park in South St. Paul. The trail also connects the Lilydale Regional Park Trail in Saint Paul, the Big Rivers Regional Trail, and the Mississippi River to the River Greenway in Dakota County.
In collaboration with Dakota County, Saint Paul Parks and Recreation developed the 3.7-mile multi-use trail as part of the interstate Mississippi River Trail, which begins at its headwaters in Itasca State Park. This project features a trail bridge over railroad tracks; two boardwalks within the Mississippi River backwater marshland; three at-grade railroad crossings; and road “diet” along Plato Boulevard. Numerous stakeholders were involved, most notably MnDOT, Ramsey County, Metropolitan Airports Commission, and Pool and Yacht Club. TKDA provided preliminary and final design services and construction administration on the project, displaying our diverse suite of design services, such as bridge design, transportation, traffic, aviation, railroad, facilities, and municipal engineering.
