TKDA worked with Amtrak to upgrade the Seattle King Street Coach Yard Maintenance Facility. The multi-phase project was designed to improve the capacity, efficiency, and working conditions of the shops.
Working with our affiliate Cedar Street Architecture, Phase I and Phase II of the project were completed utilizing a Design-Build project delivery method. We then completed the programming and developed a scope and concept layout for the buildings, taking the design to the 30% completion level. Phase I included the construction of an enclosed structure over two tracks large enough to service an entire Amtrak Cascades indoors. Phase II included a new three-story Warehouse and Administrative & Health/Welfare facility. Our team also completed Phases III and IV of the facilities upgrade which included the North and South S&I facilities, locomotive shop facility, and pedestrian bridge and tower.
