Learning Commons

The Securian Learning Commons is a dedicated space of the University of Minnesota-Duluth’s main library for integrated campus services that support student learning. The commons converted a portion of the library’s second floor into a supportive learning environment. This one-stop student center includes a multimedia hub, a tutoring center, a writer’s workshop, research and information, and a supportive services program.

  • Multimedia Hub: The Multimedia Hub offers students, faculty, and staff a friendly environment to edit videos, audio, photos, and websites. The Hub manages the University’s YouTube channel and helps students and staff upload and caption videos. Equipment is available to help individuals produce videos for class or personal projects.
  • Tutoring Center: The Tutoring Center provides an opportunity for high-achieving undergraduates to develop tutoring and leadership skills by offering their academic expertise to students enrolled in first- and second-year high-risk courses. The peer-based tutoring program includes dedicated tutorial stations for mathematics, business and economics, chemistry, biology, and computer science.
  • Writers’ Workshop: The Writers’ Workshop provides free, one-on-one consultations for any member of the campus community seeking to become a better writer.
  • Research and Information: Reference librarians at the Research and Information desk are subject-specialists, offering in-depth research support to both individuals and small groups.
  • Supportive Services Program: The Supportive Services Program promotes academic success through peer-to-peer collaborative networks to foster a strong foundation in knowledge and learning skills.
