TKDA and our design partner Carol Ross Barney worked collaboratively on the $12.5M LEED Gold Civil Engineering Building for the University of Minnesota-Duluth. With spectacularly functional and beautiful design, the new facility provided much-needed room for the quickly expanding Civil Engineering Program. The 34,000 SF two-story facility includes specialized teaching and research laboratories, classrooms, computer labs, and administrative offices. “Engineering on Display” laboratories reach two stories high, and glass walls provide views of engineers at work from outside the building and within the halls. The large labs expose the building’s structure, providing examples of engineering principles and the “Building as Teacher” design.
